Since this competition began in 2014, almost 15,000 business ideas from 60 countries worldwide have signed up to ClimateLaunchpad. The 5 thousand “green” companies that passed the program have already received more than R$500 million in external investments.
The program has been taking place in Portugal since 2016. It has already received more than 150 applications, supported more than 80 teams, and had more than 150 participants. Furthermore, Portugal has three international winners – Pavnext, Eco2blocks, and Mudatuga – and distinctions from Windcredible and Build.ing, who both reached the regional final.
UPWIND (from LSCOE/SYSTEC), ranked first, has a portable generator for producing electricity based on wind energy. It consists of an aerial device connected to a ground station via a cable. The solution created by researchers from FEUP – Faculty of Engineering of the U.Porto presents itself as an ecological alternative that does not require refuelling and offers great cost savings (around 83% reduction).
