UPWIND recognized by its key innovative technologies for the energy transition

Developed by researchers from the SYSTEC – Systems and Technologies Center at FEUP, UPWIND is a portable and easily deployable generator that produces electricity from high-altitude wind energy.

Led by Fernando Fontes, the project recently received support from Portugal 2030, Compete 2030, and Norte 2030 through U.Porto Inovação, enabling the international patent protection of this technology.

UPWIND aims to provide clean and sustainable energy solutions for remote communities and temporary electricity needs, such as construction sites or events.

Recognized with 3rd place at iUP25k, 2nd place at BIP Acceleration, and BIP PROOF 2024/2025 funding, the project reinforces FEUP’s role in developing innovative technologies for the energy transition.
