SYSTEC participates in the kick-off meeting of the REFARMING project at FCUP
On the 6th of November, SYSTEC participated in the kick-off meeting of the integrated R&D project REFARMING, which took place at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP). This meeting marked the official start of an ambitious project that brings together several renowned entities, such as CMUP, GreenUPorto, ICT, FCUP, and SYSTEC itself, with the goal of developing sustainable and innovative agricultural practices.
During the meeting, the main objectives of REFARMING were presented, focusing on promoting resilience to climate change and improving the nutritional quality of horticultural crops, with a particular emphasis on controlled production systems, such as technological greenhouses and vertical farming. The project aims to integrate advanced technologies, optimize energy use, and reduce the environmental footprint, contributing to more sustainable cities prepared to face future challenges.
SYSTEC will play a key role in developing innovative technological solutions, such as digital twins for predictive simulation and real-time control, as well as applying mathematical modeling and optimization techniques for the efficient management of agricultural production systems.
The kick-off meeting was an opportunity to align strategies, define objectives, and strengthen collaboration among the multidisciplinary teams involved, who will work together to transform the agricultural sector and address the challenges of urbanization and climate change.
The REFARMING project aligns with the strategic objectives of the RIS agenda for the Northern Region of Portugal and promises to generate significant impact on the sustainability and innovation of the agricultural sector.
