AREAS OF RESEARCH
The Thematic line SYSTEC–CONTROL is focused on providing fundamental results on optimal control theory, optimization-based control, application driven control strategies, modeling and estimation, large scale, distributed (including multi-dimensional) and structured systems.
Another important role is to develop dedicated stand-alone estimation, optimization and control algorithms and prototypes for a wide range of applications, and environments providing not only methods and tools for the other 2 TLs, but also in other application fields (e.g., health care, agriculture).
Coordinator: Fernando Arménio Fontes
The activities of this thematic line are mainly developed within the laboratory LSCOE.
The Thematic line SYSTEC-NET targets the design, development and operation of networked heterogeneous autonomous or remotely-operated, unmanned air, surface and underwater robotic vehicle systems for high-impact societal applications. SYSTEC-NET is highly interdisciplinary as it spans from the design and construction of the vehicles and supporting devices (hardware and software) including the infra-structures required for their networked operation (command and control, communications, and operational environment) to the conceptual frameworks underlying control, navigation, and coordination.
Coordinator: António Pedro Aguiar
The activities of this thematic line are mainly developed within the laboratory LSTS.
The Thematic line SYSTEC-ENERGY is highly focused on challenges arising in the emerging concepts and technologies encompassing new renewable generation systems, new electric traction systems, distributed and smart energy systems, incorporating electronic and advanced processing technologies into all energy systems in order to benefit of any primary renewable power source and optimize societal utilization of energy.
Coordinator: Adriano da Silva Carvalho
The activities of this thematic line are mainly developed within the laboratory LPETECH.
The Thematic line SYSTEC- MANUFACTURING targets the design, implementation and validation of smart components for advanced manufacturing system that introduce intelligence into industrial processes and contribute to the emergence of the factories of the future, by implementing novel approaches related with Cyber-Physical Production Systems. Targeting added value manufacturing concepts, SYSTEC-MANUFACTURING is highly interdisciplinary as it spans from the design and implementation of the smart components and supporting services (hardware and software), including the required infra-structures, to the CPPS conceptual frameworks underlying control, data analytics, intelligence and coordination.
Coordinator: Gil Gonçalves
The activities of this thematic line are mainly developed within the laboratory SYSTEC.FoF.
